NRD Seeking Summer Interns

The Lower Platte North Natural Resources District is seeking three summer interns for the summer of 2008. The position will begin in early May and run till the start of the fall semester of school.
Work will be conducted from the NRD’s office located in Wahoo, Nebraska. A district vehicle will be provided to perform work related activities. Car-pooling with full-time District staff to and from Lincoln may be an option as several employees reside in Lincoln.
Five T-shirts and a cap, each with the District logo, will be provided as uniforms to each summer employee.
Main job duties include, but may not be limited to, the following:
(May & June) ─ Operations and Maintenance Department
- Planting trees
- Dam site maintenance and inspections
- District property maintenance, to include recreational facilities
- District vehicle maintenance
- Other operational and maintenance duties as assigned
(July & August) ─ Water Department
- Surface water quality sampling utilizing ISCO automated samplers
- Performing chemigation inspections
- Performing ground water quality sampling
- Measuring irrigation well pumping rates with an ultrasonic flow meter
- Stream gauging various creeks in the District
- Various office duties as needed such as mailings and data input (computer skills are preferred)
- Performing wellhead contaminant source inventories, collect GPS data and perform geographic information system
- Other water duties as assigned
A 40-hour workweek is guaranteed with work hours from 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Rate of pay is approximately $8.50 per hour.
Work situations may involve outside conditions of high heat and humidity. Exposure to dust and pollen will also be encountered.
Individuals with interests in natural resources and water resources are encouraged to apply. Employment preference is given to college students (upper classmen) with natural resources or related major. If interested please send application letter, resume and list of references to:
