Each May, the Lower Platte North NRD hosts the Spring Conservation Sensation, an all-day natural resources festivals for 5th and 6th graders. Schools in the NRD's portions of Butler, Colfax, Dodge, Platte, and Saunders counties are eligible to attend. Registration information for the event is mailed in March each year; to be placed on the mailing list, contact Troy Thompson, Information/Education Specialist.
The Sensation is held at Czechland Lake Recreation near Prague, or at a backup location like the Saunders County Fairground if the weather is poor. Students spend the day in hands-on educational activities focusing on water, wildlife, forestry, geography, and more.
More than 5,000 students have attended the Spring Conservation Sensation since its inception in 1991. Presenters are drawn from a variety of local, state and federal agencies. Members of local FFA chapters serve as guides.
Registration information is sent to all schools in the district in March each year. Registrations are also accepted online.
