Natural Resources Districts are primarily financed with tax revenues. About half of the Lower Platte North NRD’s budget comes from a levy on local property taxes. By law, NRDs are limited to a maximum levy of 5.5 cents/$100 valuation. The NRD’s levy generally accounts for 1.5–2% of total local property taxes.
Other funding comes from state and federal grants, local partnerships, and outside sources such as the Nebraska Environmental Trust.
Projected budget expenses and income can be found in the Appendix section of the Long Range Plan.
